Jennifer Tilly is probably one of the best known poker players in the world, although it might not be on account of her poker accomplishments.

Born in Harbour City, LA in 1958, the daughter of Chinese American car salesman Harry Chan and school-teacher Patricia Tilly, Jennifer is an actress who starred and co-starred in a vast number of movies starting with 1983.

Her mother had divorced and re-married several times which meant that Jennifer moved around a lot with her during her teenage years. They first moved to Texada Island, BC, then to Victoria. She started her acting career at Stephens College, in Missouri, through the theatre program there.

She began her movie acting career in 1983, when she started appearing in guest roles and supporting roles in movies like Hill Street Blues and It’s Garry Shandling’s Show.

The turning point of her career came in 1989, when she had a role specially written for her, for the movie The Fabulous Baker Boys. Following that, she played in movies like Jim Carrey’s Liar Liar, Bride of Chucky, Seed of Chucky (and a great number of other titles) lending her voice to various characters in Stuart Little, Monsters Inc and Family Guy.

Despite the fact that her acting career has been considerably more substantial than her poker achievements so far, she shouldn’t be taken lightly in that respect either. She has a WSOP bracelet which she won in 2005, in the Ladies only NL Texas Holdem event, having bested a starting field of 600 players. That win earned her $158k. That same year, she also won the WPT Ladies Invitational Tournament in the Bicycle Casino in LA.

She appeared in Celebrity Poker Showdown, in ESPN’s Pro-Am Poker Equalizer as well as in GSN’s Poker Royale and Poker Superstars. All-in-all, she has 1 WSOP bracelet and 4 money finishes in various WSOP events. As far as the WPT is concerned, she has one title, two final table presences and 6 money finishes.

Having divorced husband Sam Simon in 1991, she is currently dating professional poker player Phil “Unabomber” Laak, who is 14 years younger than her. On account of this relationship, she has been nicknamed the Unabombshell in poker circles.
